Abel Avila-Perez, 5, from San Jose, who'd been on the run for 27 years has been arrested and booked on suspicion of killing his married sister's lover, Arnulfo Medina, 30, in South Los Angeles in 1985.
Perez was able to escape detection by making minor changes to his name after the crime and has been living in San Jose ever since.
Avila-Perez was quickly identified as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He fled and changed his first name to Avel, according to a California driver's license.
A state computer system often identified him by his maternal last name, Perez.
Detectives in LAPD's Newton Division, charged with tracking down murder suspects with warrants for their arrests, developed information that Avila was living in San Jose. He was found and arrested and will now face murder charges.
Having an arrest warrant or bench warrant issued in your name gives law enforcement to arrest you at any time of the day or night that is why it is wise to obtain a Warrant Attorney to go to court on your behalf to have the warrant recalled/resolved before an arrest occurs. Even if an arrest is necessary, such s in the case of Perez, it would still be in your best interest to retain an experienced and aggressive arrest warrant attorney.
